Kink Crusaders takes home ‘Best Documentary’ at CineKink 2011 film festival!
Directed by Michael Skiff in 2010, this documentary is a loving profile of the International Mr. Leather contest an event that got its start in the back of a Chicago bar over thirty years ago.
Go behind the scenes at this annual event, where men from around the world gather to compete for the title of Mr. Leather. Once a small niche community that was dismissed by critics as a carnival of gay sexual fetishes, leather has gone mainstream, and Kink Crusaders proves why. As it delves into the lives and aspirations of its contestants with humour, tasteful eroticism and pathos, it reveals a group of men for whom spiritual connection, openness and understanding are the true definition of masculinity.
As you will see, the world’s oldest Kink/Fetish contest isn’t just for ‘white, gay males’ anymore. Now straights, the disabled and transgender men come together to compete for this honour of masculinity. And it was all started 30 years earlier by a man who took the risk of opening Chicago’s first Leather bar in the 1950′s. This sexy, smart, surprisingly upbeat doc dares to ask: Is there a bit of Kink Crusader in us all?
The documentary also features interviews with IML’s founder, Chuck Renslow, along with past title-holders Guy Baldwin, Mikel Gerle, David Kloss, Tony Mills, John Pendal and Jeff Tucker.
